As a young boy growing up in Rochester, New York, Scott Plakon's parents would take him and his two brothers on vacation every year to visit beautiful Florida. From the beaches to the Central Florida attractions, some of Scott's fondest childhood memories are rooted in Florida.
It was no surprise that when it was time to choose a college, Scott applied nowhere else but Central Florida. He was accepted at Stetson University and graduated in 1981. In spite of job opportunities elsewhere, Scott decided to stay in Central Florida after graduation. He started a publishing company with a friend which published telephone directories for 11 Florida Universities.
In 1984 Scott met Susie Rushing. They immediately fell in love and shortly thereafter they were married. The Plakon's never considered starting a family anywhere else but Central Florida because of its charm and promise of unlimited opportunity. The young family quickly began to grow and today is blessed with six wonderful children - Jeanne, Timothy, John, Jamison, David, and Erica Villa.

At one time or another, the Plakon children have attended public, private and home school. The Plakon's have first hand knowledge about the strengths and challenges of educating children in our state and can relate to the concerns of parents today over what our children watch and listen to. As involved parents, Scott and Susie became involved with the Media Research Center and Scott has served as the Central Florida Chapter Director of the Parents Television Council.
Scott Plakon is a dedicated husband and father as well as a well regarded local businessman. After his first foray into publishing, he joined a local firm and had a successful career in the securities industry. He later served as chief operating officer at another publishing company and in early 1996, after only 3 years, that Central Florida Company started to trade on the NASDAQ National Stock Market.
In 1998, Scott was ready for the next challenge and founded The Claims Pages. The company now publishes and prints in over 20 states and has an online presence in all 50 states and Canada. It's national headquarters is based right here in Central Florida with support offices in two other states. By serving its over 7,000+ customers per year well and helping to bring ever expanding opportunities to its 50+ employees, The Claims Pages and The Claims Pages Online have become a well recognized brands in the insurance claims industry. And, since most customers are outside the State of Florida, most of the millions of dollars per year in revenue is brought back here into Central Florida, thereby adding to the local economy and creating jobs.
In addition to his extensive first hand experience as a small business owner, Scott Plakon's memberships in the National Federation of Independent Businesses and The Seminole County Regional Chamber of Commerce have helped him to further understand the dynamics of how complex issues like property taxes and insurance can affect the public and businesses alike.
As a citizen of Florida and District 29, Scott Plakon believes that we all have a responsibility to give of our gifts, talents and resources to help others that may be in need. And since they have been blessed by God in so many ways, Scott and Susie have taken on active roles in the community that they so love. Scott serves as the Vice Chairman of the Sanford Rescue Outreach Mission and the Open Door Shelter for Women and Children, one of the few places of refuge for the homeless and hungry in Seminole County. Scott also serves as a founding board member of the Safe Harbor Pregnancy Center, which counsels pregnant women and helps those who have chosen to give birth to their babies be prepared for their new lives as mothers.
It is with this heart of a servant that Scott Plakon decided to run for the Florida House:
"I am thankful to God every day that I have been given the opportunity to raise my children in a community like this where good old fashioned family values still guide our principles and policies. That's why I would like to be a part of protecting and enhancing our way of life in District 29 and in Florida by serving and representing you, my friends and neighbors, in the Florida House of Representatives."
